Over the last weeks, Busquets has been playing worse than usual and has been criticized.
In this video I explain in a simple way what is happening to the player of FC Barcelona.
1 – In the context of Barça pressing the opponent against his goal, Busquets is the best in the world at collecting the clearances. He is like a wall impeding the opponent from getting out.
2 – To create this context, FC Barcelona needs to be very well structured. For this, they need to produce long sequence of passes and midfielders able to hold the ball.
3 – From the beginning of this season 16/17, Busquets has played with Iniesta and Rakitic only a few times. For different reasons, they were substituted by Rafinha, André Gomes and Denis Suárez. Those players tend to go quickly towards the goal and do not provide the structure their team needs.
4 – Due to this, Barcelona is not compact. Busquets is not where he should be. He is left alone in midfield, with no help to prevent the counterattacks.
5 – Besides, Busquets is often required to help the team to build from the back. Therefore he has to go deeper and as a result is far away from his best position.
6 – The current situation, Iniesta being injured, requires Busquets to be the key player to give structure to his team. But this is one quality Busquets does not have, hence he is showing his limitations in this aspect.
7 – As soon as FC Barcelona comes back to a more structured way of attacking, which is likely when Iniesta is back, Busquets will play better. He will be able to go back to his best position and shine again.
