Tactics made easy - Sergio Busquets

Sergio Busquets is a key player for FC Barcelona.
In this article we will describe the main aspects of his game.
The analysis is divided into two phases.
First we will see Busquets without the ball, and then Busquets with the ball.

1)  Busquets without the ball

In this video you can see in a very simple way what Busquets does when he does not have the ball.

1 - Busquets is the defensive midfielder in the 4-3-3 that FC Barcelona uses.

2 - He helps the centerbacks by taking their position when they follow the forwards.

3 - He protects the center of his penalty box when the opponent crosses. He pays attention to the player that comes running from midfield.

4 - When Barça has to get the ball back, Busquets shows a very special quality. He calculates the perfect position to be able to steal the ball and cover the largest area of the pitch at the same time. He "monitors" the opponents.

5 - He helps in building from the back by moving intelligently on the pitch.

6 - When Barcelona is installed close to the goal, Busquets is the hidden piece that enables Messi and co. to shine. He collects all the clearances by defending moving forward - and not backward - and prevents the opponent from getting out of their own half.
This is why Busquets is unique, that makes him very special and so important for FC Barcelona.

2) Busquets with the ball

In this video you can see in a very simple way the main four things Busquets does when his team has the ball:

1 - He helps in building from the back by taking part in the "Lavolpiana".

2 - In midfield, he is able to break the line of the opponent and therefore he enables his teammates to get closer to the goal.

3 - He is the pivot of his team. When Barcelona is attacking, he is the solution to pass the ball quickly from one side to the other.

4 - He attracts the opponents by holding the ball and then he passes to the player who was freed from marking. He creates space and time for his teammates.
