Nice afternoon at the Camp Nou

FC Barcelona won 2-0 against Athletic on the afternoon of Saturday 13th September at Camp Nou

The game proved interesting and here are my notes.

1- Athletic formation.

Athletic played 4-2-3-1. Compact block to prevent Barça from playing easily inside.

2 - FC Barcelona formation.

Barça keeps using the 3 forwards inside. Fullbacks give width high on the pitch.

2 – Barcelona initiating

a. Athletic did try to prevent “culés” from starting easily from the back.

But Barça found the solution.

b. Iniesta’s moves without the ball made Alba alone on the left.

 

c. On the right, Rakitic got very wide to offer a passing option.

d. Another way to start was direct pass from centerhalf to forwards.

3- Organized attack.

a. During organized attack, Rakitic provided passes from the right.

b. On the left, Alba took advantage of teammates to receive high and alone.

c. From the left, Alba found positional superiority. He disorganized Athletic.

d. Iniesta benefited from Alba’s position. He had space and time.

4- Pressing

When they lose the ball, Barça tries to keep distance between the lines.

You can see Luis Enrique asking for it from the bench!

5- Organized defense

a. No doubt on the organization of the Barcelona defense.

b. During organized defense the 3MFs try to keep close. Center always covered.

There is still a lot to do for Luis Enrique.

But you can already tell this is his team.
